Uppenberg is a district of the independent city of Münster in Westphalia and belongs to the Mitte district . It is located between the Kinderhaus district further north and the Kreuzviertel . Uppenberg corresponds to the statistical district 47. As of December 31, 2018, the eligible population of Uppenberg was 9,135 inhabitants on an area of ​​3.4 km², which corresponds to a population density of 26,867 inhabitants per hectare.

Uppenberg is to the east through Kanalstrasse , to the south through York-Ring , Friesenring and Cheruskerring , to the west through Steinfurter Strasse ( B 54 ) and to the north through a strip of undeveloped area between Uppenberg and Kinderhaus (route of the formerly planned relief road North / III . Nordtangente) limited. It borders the Kinderhaus in the north, Rumphorst in the east, Kreuz- and Neutorviertel in the south and Sentrup and Gievenbeck in the west.

Uppenberg comprises the part of the closed development of the core city of Münster located north of the city ring. It is around one and a half kilometers to the castle and around 2–3 kilometers to the city center. The western part of Uppenberg is used for long-term economic purposes, to the east the Stadtpark Wienburg dominates the district. There are dense buildings around the ring on the southern border and Grevener Straße from north to south.

The Kinderbach flows through the west of Uppenberg from Gievenbeck to Kinderhaus. The Münstersche Aa flows past Uppenberg directly behind the Kanalstrasse .

history

The peasantry Uppenberg was one of several scattered settlements in the rural community above water of the district Münster. In Uppenberg was the Rötgering estate, which the abbess of the Abbey of Überwasser transferred to Engelbert vondeckebrock in 1295 . The landscape called Uppenberg also included the present day Kinderhaus and Kreuzviertel areas. In 1903 the community of Überwasser was incorporated into the city of Münster. The development began on the one hand from the Kreuzviertel side, on the other hand the village Kinderhaus in the north grew into a suburb of Münster with a high population.

Grevener Strasse is Uppenberg's main artery and crosses the Münster city ring on the southern edge of the district, which connects to Münster's other arteries. One of these is Bundesstrasse 54 , which as Steinfurter Strasse forms the western edge of Uppenberg. It runs as an expressway via Steinfurt to Gronau to the Dutch border near Enschede . Near Uppenberg, the B54 is also a feeder to the federal motorway 1 to Osnabrück.

Lines 9 (Nienberge-Hauptbahnhof-Hiltrup) and 33/34 (ring line on the city ring) strip south of Uppenberg. The regional bus route 51 leads on the B219 to Greven and Münster-Osnabrück Airport . Lines R73 / R74 lead to Altenberge on Steinfurter Straße.
