Berg Fidel is a residential area ( district ) in Münster in Westphalia .

Berg Fidel is located in the south of the city between the Geistviertel and Hiltrup and belongs to the Hiltrup district . In 1964, the city of Münster launched an international urban planning competition for the district, in which 49 offices took part. Proposals were expected for a modern and functional development and development, combined with new knowledge of urban and residential construction. The work of the Düsseldorf architect Jochen Kuhn was awarded first prize. His plan represented the basis of the development plan. Due to a tight financial framework, the building density was increased from 800 to 1250 residential units (mostly social housing). Eight construction companies were involved in the implementation (1968–1976). Various house typologies were built, ranging from terraced and atrium houses to staggered multi-storey buildings, as well as a shop center, churches, schools and sports facilities. The city commissioned the landscape architect Günther Grzimek to plan the green space .

The image of the district is characterized by a mixed development of single and multi-family houses, as well as a widely visible building complex originally planned as a luxury apartment block, which is called the White Giant by the people of Münster due to its size and white color . Almost 6000 people currently live in the 5 km² district.

In addition, in this district with the Prussian stadium of the football club Preußen Münster , the sports hall on Berg Fidel, home of the women's volleyball Bundesliga team USC Münster , and a large skater park (home of the SAG ) are important points of the Münster sports scene.
