Marion Tüns

Marion Tüns (born December 27, 1946 ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

She was elected Lord Mayor of the City of Münster in November 1994 and replaced Jörg Twenhöven . With her, not only for the first time a woman, but also for the first time an SPD member and for the first time a person of Protestant denomination became mayor of the city. In the course of the local government reform , Tüns became full-time mayor on September 1, 1997, but was unable to prevail against CDU candidate Berthold Tillmann in the direct mayor election on September 12, 1999 .

With the electoral defeat, she ended her work in local politics and largely returned to private life, even if she remained an active member of the SPD. Most recently, she was active as a public spokesperson for the referendum against the partial privatization of Stadtwerke Münster "Pro Stadtwerke Münster" in 2001/02.
