Berthold Tillmann

Berthold Tillmann (born March 6, 1950 in Sundern ) is a Münster local politician ( CDU ) and was the mayor of Münster from 1999 to 2009 .

Tillmann studied sociology , political science , psychology and educational science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster from 1969 to 1974 and received his doctorate in 1984.

Since 1980 he has been employed in various positions in the city administration of Münster. In 1993 he became city ​​treasurer . In the 1999 North Rhine-Westphalian municipal elections, he won the first direct election for mayor in the first ballot with 57.5% of the votes against the incumbent mayor Marion Tüns ( SPD ). In 2004 he won the runoff election against Christoph Strässer ( SPD ) with 53.8% and was confirmed in office.

In 2006 Tillmann sat on the supervisory boards of Flughafen Münster Osnabrück GmbH and Provinzial NordWest Holding , was chairman of the administrative board of Sparkasse Münsterland Ost and sat on the regional advisory board of RWE Rhein-Ruhr AG as well as on the advisory board for "public customers" at WestLB .

On May 14, 2007, Tillmann announced that he would no longer run for the office of mayor in the next local elections in 2009. Markus Lewe (CDU), who took over from Tillmann on October 21, 2009, was elected as his successor in the local elections on August 30, 2009 .

Tillmann is married and has an adult daughter.
