Stumbling block Hans Debus Krausen 1–3 in Solingen

Debus came from a working class family. He was only five years old when his father died. He attended the secular elementary school in Wald. As a teenager he participated in the resistance against the Nazi regime by distributing illegal pamphlets. In August 1937 he escaped arrest by fleeing to Belgium . In Belgium Debus joined the resistance of the KPD and brought illegal writings across the border to Germany on behalf of the party. While crossing the border in Aachen , Debus was arrested by the police on August 18, 1939 and taken to Berlin-Moabit . As a protective prisoner he was sent to the Dachau concentration camp by the Aachen Gestapo on June 28, 1940 ; On July 12, 1941, Debus was transferred to Buchenwald , later transferred to the external command at the Cologne Exhibition Center for forced labor . In April 1944 he managed to escape from the Deutz exhibition center. Debus initially hid in Cologne and made contact with resistance groups in the city, including the edelweiss pirates . Seriously ill from five years in prison ( pulmonary tuberculosis ), Debus soon decided to go into hiding with his sister in Solingen. He died there on February 14, 1945.

Since August 2005 a stumbling block has been reminding of Hans Debus in Solingen .
