601. skupina speciálních sil generála Moravce (English 601st Special Forces Group , German literally 601st Group of Special Forces "General Moravec" ) is a special unit of the Czech Armed Forces .

assignment

The range of operations is broad and includes not only the classic military mission profiles with reconnaissance , infiltration and exfiltration, direct combat missions and commando missions, but also intelligence gathering and the fight against terrorism such as hostage rescue .

organization

The unit reports directly to the Minister of Defense and is assigned to the head of the military intelligence service.

history

The unit was founded in 1952 as an airborne force . She has been stationed in Prostějov since 1960 . In the early 1970s, it was restructured for reconnaissance and special purposes. The unit has had its current name since 2003. The honorary name General Moravec commemorates the head of the military intelligence service of Czechoslovakia and the Czechoslovak government-in-exile in London, František Moravec , who, among other things, prepared Operation Anthropoid (the assassination attempt on Reinhard Heydrich ). The motto of the unit is DUM SPIRO SPERO (in German: as long as I breathe, I have hope ).

Calls

The unit was used in several overseas operations. She participated in operations in Iraq, in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Kuwait , in ISAF and in Europe within the framework of AFOR, KFOR , SFOR , IFOR and UNPROFOR . Her first assignment abroad was in Saudi Arabia during the Second Gulf War .
