Brussels Conference of the KPD
The KPD's Brussels conference took place from October 3 to 15, 1935 in Kunzewo near Moscow . For conspiratorial reasons, Brussels was specified as the conference location . The conference is counted as the 13th party congress of the KPD .
background
The Brussels conference was the first party conference of the Communist Party after the takeover of the Nazis in Germany. The report of the Central Committee of the KPD was made by Wilhelm Pieck and Wilhelm Florin . Walter Ulbricht , Anton Ackermann and Franz Dahlem gave presentations . Among the foreign guests was Palmiro Togliatti, a member of the Executive Committee of the Communist International and leader of the Communist Party of Italy .
In the run-up to the conference two directions faced each other. A strong group of the KPD leadership (including Dahlem and Florin) took the view that the party's policy before 1933 had been correct and that no change was necessary. Ulbricht, Pieck and others, on the other hand, aimed at a fundamental review of the previous strategy and tactics of the KPD in the anti-fascist struggle.
decisions
Based on the resolutions of the VII World Congress of the Communist International , the conference aimed at creating a unit of action for all sections of the working class and the anti-fascist popular front , thereby correcting its previous policy. Above all, this concerned the relationship with the SPD , which until then had been repeatedly defamed as social-fascist by the KPD and viewed as the main political opponent. With the resolution The new way to the common struggle of all working people for the overthrow of the Hitler dictatorship and the manifesto To the working German people! It showed the way to overthrow the Hitler regime, to prevent war and to establish a free, democratic Germany. The resolutions of the Brussels conference formed the basis for the KPD's program for a new democratic republic, which was drawn up at the KPD's conference in Bern .
In addition, Ernst Thälmann was re-elected chairman of the KPD and Wilhelm Pieck was commissioned to perform this function during Thälmann's imprisonment.
