Degree Beck
The Beck degree , named after the German chemist Philipp Friedrich Beck , was a unit used in Germany and Switzerland for the relative density of liquids, derived from the 30-part hydrometer designed by Beck in Bern . He relied on the suggestions of the Swiss pharmacist Sigmund Friedrich Benteli (also written Benteley or Bentely), whose assistant he was for a long time; therefore one speaks collectively of the Benteli-Beck hydrometer or the Benteli-Beck degrees.
Conversion of the Benteli-Beck degrees into relative density:
- For liquids heavier than water (at 12.5 ° C)
- Lighter than water for liquids (at 12.5 ° C)
