Grafensteiner Platte

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grafensteiner Platte is a traditional, rustic floor tile made from Grafenstein . It is made exclusively by hand from Carinthian clay . This means that every tile is unique. Alois Falkinger runs Austria's last hand brick . Hand brickwork is a craft that has almost died out in Austria . He took over the brickworks and the product range in the 1990s from the Orsini-Rosenberg family , who had already ceased operations for cost reasons. This enabled a unique cultural asset to be kept alive.

Listed restorations such as the Heihsgut in Lungau like to use this traditional floor tile.
