Graham Priest (* 1948 in London ) is a philosopher and logician and professor at the University of Melbourne . He is known for his work on the philosophy of logic and non-classical logic .

Priest has contributed major essays on paraconsistent logic . His essay "What is so bad about contradictions?" Was particularly influential . from 1998, in which he argues that nothing should follow from the contradictory (i.e. contrary to ex falso quodlibet ). There are examples in physics and in the legal system in which we accept contradictions because it would require a far more complex explanation or regulation to resolve them. This may result in a certain fuzziness, but under no circumstances should anything be inferred. As a result of this view, he has dealt with various alternative logics and among other things has written a standard textbook on non-classical logic.
