The Garnet Point is a headland on the south coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . Tidespring Island is just south of it . The headland is one of the breeding areas of the giant petrel and the wandering albatross .

The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2009. It is named after the whaler garnet , which sank in the Icefjord in 1925 as a result of a collision with a reef rock .
