Tidespring Island is an island in the South Georgia archipelago in the South Atlantic . It is the westernmost and largest of the Samuel Islands and is located immediately south of Granat Point .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2009. It is named after the RFA Tidespring from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary , which was used in April 1982 as a supply ship to supply fuel in the Falklands War during the reconquest of South Georgia after the invasion by the armed forces of Argentina .
