Ceres-1

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ceres-1 ( Chinese 谷 神 星 一号 ) is a launch vehicle under development by the Chinese manufacturer Galactic Energy (星河 动力). It is used to transport small satellites into low earth orbits and is scheduled to launch for the first time in August 2020 [obsolete] from the Jiuquan Cosmodrome .

The rocket is named after the dwarf planet Ceres , the largest object in the asteroid belt . Its name comes from the Roman deity Ceres .

Structure and data

According to the manufacturer, the Ceres-1 is 19 meters long and has a takeoff weight of 30 t. It consists of three stages with solid propulsion and an upper stage with liquid propulsion . The first stage should generate "60 t" (588  kN ) of thrust , the second the equivalent of 275 kN and the third 86 kN. Galactic Energy states that the maximum payload is 350 kg for a near-earth orbit or 230 kg for a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 700 km.

In mid-July 2020, attempts were made to erect the largely assembled rocket for the first time.
