The Samuel Islands are a small group of islands and cliffs just off the south coast of South Georgia . They are 1.5 km west-southwest of the Nilse Hullet Bay and 3 km east-southeast of Klutschak Point . The group includes Tidespring Island and Austin Island .
The South Georgia Survey mapped them in its 1951-1957 survey campaign. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1958 after the whaling ship Don Samuel , built in 1925 , later owned by the Grytviken- based company Compañía Argentina de Pesca , which sank in the vicinity of these islands in 1951.
