The Grand Hotel de l'Europe was built in 1927/28 according to plans by the architect Hans Feichtlbauer and opened on July 4, 1928. It was a five-storey high, wide building, which consisted of a white central building and two dark-colored side buildings, which were each enlivened by two small oriels extending through four floors. The central building had a terrace on the first floor. The building has a long line of corridors on each floor, the rooms of which faced Mozartstrasse.

The hotel was one of the leading first class luxury hotels in Linz at that time. The Colosseum cinema was also established in this building until the construction of the new cinema building on Schillerplatz. The hotel had to close in 1935 due to unprofitability. The house was acquired by the city of Linz and converted into a police headquarters by the architect Curt Kühne , which was housed here until 1981. Between 1938 and 1945 the building was also used by the National Socialists as a prison in which male opponents of the regime were imprisoned.

In 1982/83 the construction was canceled and then a commercial building, in which the fashion department store C & A is located, was built.
