Grattage
Under Grattage (French. Gratter scrape off) refers to the art methods, are scraped away at the one above the other with a blade applied paint layers or scraped off and formed in this way, new color forms.
The grattage is a transfer of frottage to oil painting. Objects can be placed under the painting ground, the relief of which is transferred to the painting ground and thus influences the removal of paint. Both techniques were developed by Max Ernst in 1925 .
Overall, frottage and grattage represent techniques that meet the artist's endeavors to work with foreign materials while avoiding direct painting of his own.
