Ulrich Bischoff

Ulrich Bischoff (* 1947 in Hameln ) is a German art historian and author. From 1994 to 2013 he was director of the Neue Meister gallery of the Dresden State Art Collections .

Live and act

Ulrich Bischoff, who had attended school in Bremen, studied art history , German , sociology , history , philosophy , religious studies and education in Tübingen and Berlin. From 1972, after completing his master's degree , he held numerous teaching positions at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and at the universities of Berlin, Kiel, Hamburg, Passau and Dresden. 1977 the doctorate to Dr. phil at the Free University of Berlin in art history. The topic of the dissertation was "Monuments of the Wars of Liberation in Germany 1813-1815".

From 1994 until his retirement in March 2013, Bischoff was director of the Gemäldegalerie Neue Meister of the State Art Collections in Dresden. He is the editor of numerous writings in the fields of classical modernism and contemporary art and has written biographies on Max Ernst , Paul Klee and Edvard Munch .

Since 2010 he has been honorary professor for art history at the Technical University of Dresden (TU Dresden).
