( Linnaeus , 1758)

The gray field slug ( Deroceras agreste , syn .: Agriolimax agrestis ), also known as the monochrome field slug , is a relatively small species of slug . This type of snail is relatively rare in Central Europe.

features

The gray field slug is not always gray in color, but also appears in various colors from light gray to yellowish to dark brown, but always without colored dots. That is why the name monochrome field snail was proposed. This German-language name is also not applicable to all specimens, as there can be various streak-like discolorations within the basic color. It becomes 3–4 cm long.

The gray field snail is an intermediate host for the badger lungworm Aelurostrongylus falciformis .

Systematics

The field slugs form a family within the nudibranch, which mainly consists of the genus Deroceras with numerous subgenera. The gray field slug is placed in the subgenus Chorolimax . However, this system is currently still the subject of further research. Externally, the gray field snail is difficult to distinguish from other Deroceras species.
