The Grauholzdenkmal commemorates the Battle of Grauholz in 1798 and is located on the wooded range of Grauholz hills in the area of ​​the municipality of Moosseedorf in the canton of Bern , Switzerland . It is easy to see from the A1 motorway , in the direction of Bern, on the right-hand side.

The monument is made of white Solothurn limestone, has the shape of a truncated column and is 12 meters high together with the base. On behalf of the cantonal Bernese officers' association, it was created by the Ticino sculptor Luigi Piffaretti and inaugurated in 1886 after a design by Bernese Gottlieb Hirsbrunner that emerged victorious from a competition .

When the view of the monument was blocked by the later construction of the Federal Remontendepot (a building for the Swiss cavalry ), it was moved to its current location in 1930, near which the A1 motorway now runs. It bears the words Be united .
