Graves of the Leinstermen

The stone row Graves of the Leinstermen , ( German  "Graves of the men from Leinster " ) consists of four menhirs . It is located in County Tipperary in Ireland above Lough Derg between the towns of Ballina and Portroe on the western slope of the 463 m high Tountinna , a mountain in the Arra Mountains . A narrow, steep road leads from Portroe to the row of stones.

It is likely a Bronze Age stone setting , an excavation has not yet been made, but Irish legends associate the site with various names and events.

Legends

  • Fintan mac Bochra (the old white-haired) survived the flood here , according to the “ Book of Conquests ”.
  • The High King Brian Boru kills the King of Leinster and his men who want to go to Limerick to attend a wedding of the Vikings who live there and are allied with Leinster , to which they secretly wanted to get through his territory.
