The Great Moss Swamp (literally: Great Moss Swamp , also Loganburn Reservoir ) is, contrary to its name, not a swamp today, but a reservoir in the Otago region on the South Island of New Zealand .

It is located on the Maniototo Plain near the old Dunstan Trail gold rush route , 85 km northwest of Dunedin . The closest places are the settlement of Paerau about 15 km north and Middlemarch about 20 km east, to which, however, there is no direct road connection.

The lake lies on the surface of the Rock and Pillar Range . This mountain range is an eyrie and therefore has a flat surface. Today's lake was once a swamp, but it was dammed by a dam for irrigation and hydropower generation. The lake is drained by the Logan Burn , which flows into the Taieri River at Paerau .
