The Grebbe Line was a Dutch line of defense based on the inundation . In the event of a defense, the country could be flooded 40 centimeters high. It was in the run-up to the so-called Dutch waterline . Originally built around 1745, it lost its importance in the 19th century. It was largely abolished in 1926 and again greatly expanded and modernized from 1939 onwards. During the Second World War , as part of the " Fortress Holland " , it was supposed to stop German troops in the apron of the Central Dutch areas. The Grebbe Line ran from Grebbeberg in Rhenen north to the IJsselmeer . She is afterGrebbeberg named.
