With Green Goal you wanted for the first time in the history of football, try to make the environment play a significant role. For this purpose, the drinks were given from returnable cups in all World Cup stadiums . There was also a waste separation system for waste in and around the stadium. In addition, the traffic connections for the visitors as well as the reduction of the energy consumption of the stadiums and the economical use of water were essential components of the Green Goal project. The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) therefore received two hydrogen buses as part of Green Goal before the soccer World Cup , which should help to "clean up" local public transport during the tournament.
