Greenside Farm

The Greenside Farm is a farm near the Scottish village of Ceres in the Council Area Fife . In 1972 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The farm has existed since the 18th century at the latest. The year 1733 on a lintel bears witness to this. In 1845 the Greenside Farm was rebuilt. More outbuildings were added in the later 19th century.

Greenside Farm is isolated around three kilometers southwest of Ceres. The main complex encloses an inner courtyard open to the south on three sides. This U-shaped floor plan is unusual in Scotland. Two windows each flank the central gateway of the two-story quarry stone buildings with natural stone surrounds . There are segment-arched windows with rudimentary pilasters . An unusual, lower-lying cattle yard was later let into the inner courtyard. Triple windows are let into the southern gable ends. The roofs are covered with slate. The external buildings include storage buildings, workshops, a chicken coop and a steam-powered threshing hall.
