The lake is located in the northwest of Melbourne , approx. 20 km from the city center in the valley of the Yuroke Creek , a tributary of the Moonee Ponds Creeks . It is not primarily fed by natural tributaries, but by feed lines from the Silvan Reservoir in east Melbourne, about 60 km away . It supplies the west of Melbourne with drinking water.
