Greg Errico

Greg Errico (born September 1, 1946 in San Francisco , California) is an American musician and producer.

Greg Errico became known as the drummer in the initial formation of the soul / funk band Sly & the Family Stone , which he left in 1971 as the first. In September 1974 he appeared in David Bowie's band on the Diamond Dogs Tour.

He later played for bands like Weather Report , Santana and the Grateful Dead . In the early 1980s he was a drummer in the Jerry Garcia Band. For a Betty Davis album he played with Larry Graham from Sly & The Family Stone, players in the Tower of Power Horn section.

Errico lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and continues to play and produce music. One of his projects was the production of the Jamie David Big Band album. At the 2006 Grammy Awards, he played a tribute to Sly & the Family Stone along with most of his former band members. For the past several years he has been the drummer for the newly established Quicksilver Messenger Service .

Errico played at the Woodstock Festival and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. In 2016, Rolling Stone listed him 67th of the 100 best drummers of all time .
