Betty Davis

Betty Davis , nee Betty O. Mabry , (born July 26, 1945 in Durham , North Carolina ) is a former American singer .

Career

Betty Mabry moved to New York at the age of 16 and worked as a model there. She came into contact with musicians, including Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone . She met Miles Davis in 1967 , and the two married in September 1968. Though the marriage lasted only a year, her influence led Davis to reorient his music. The result was the album Bitches Brew .

Her second album They Say I'm Different from 1974 was included in The Wire's list of "100 Records That Set the World on Fire (While No One Was Listening)" . In 1975 their third album Nasty Gal was released from Island Records . There was no commercial success.

Betty Davis disappeared from the scene in the early 1980s. Today she lives in seclusion in a small apartment near Pittsburgh.
