Greg Maidment started skeleton in 1988. He contested his first international race in 2009 in the Skeleton America's Cup . In his first race in Park City , he was tenth. In the same month he reached his first single-digit placement as fifth in Calgary . In the overall standings, the Canadian finished tenth. The following season Maidment was behind Yuzuru Hanyūda second in the first race of Calgary and came on the podium for the first time. He won the following race in Lake Placid ahead of Hanyuda and Hiroyuki Bamba , a day later he was second again behind Hanyuda in the same place.
