Gregorio Pérez Demaría (born July 9, 1853 in Caín de Arriba , Valdeón, Province of León ; † July 9, 1913 in Caín de Abajo ) was a Spanish mountain guide , shepherd and hunter. In 1904 he was involved in the first ascent of Naranjo de Bulnes in the Picos de Europa . Together with Pedro José Pidal y Bernaldo de Quirós , he reached the summit of the 2,514 m high mountain on August 5, 1904. Gregorio Pérez was known by the nickname El Cainejo (after his hometown), his neighbors called him El Atrevido (the daring). He was married to Francisca Cuevas Roiz, who also came from Caín. They had five children together. Gregorio Pérez died of injuries sustained by a billy goat from his herd.
