Gregory Barker, Baron Barker of Battle (born March 8, 1966 in Worthing , West Sussex ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party .

Origin and education

Barker attended Upper Beeding Primary School , Steyning Grammar School , and Lancing College in Sussex . He studied history and politics at the University of London's Royal Holloway and earned a bachelor's degree .

Profession and Political Career

After completing his studies in 1987, he worked for the Center for Policy Studies for a short period . Barker then started working as an analyst at Gerard Vivian Gray . Barker has been a director at the Daris advertising company since 1998 .

Barker represented the constituency of Bexhill and Battle , East Sussex , in the House of Commons from 2001 to 2015 .

In the British general election in 2001 he was elected as a member of the House of Commons and he was re-elected in the general election in 2005 and 2010 . On March 30, 2015, Barker resigned from the House of Commons. From 2010 to 2014 he was Minister of State in the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

On October 12, 2015, Barker was named a Life Peer with the title Baron Barker of Battle, of Battle in the County of East Sussex , making him a member of the British aristocracy . At the same time he also became a member of the House of Lords .

Private

In 1992, Barker married Celeste Harrison. Since separating from her in 2006, he has lived with the designer William Banks-Blaney.
