A border guard department ( GSA ) was a sub-unit of the German Federal Border Guard . The departments were about 600 men strong, corresponded to about a battalion of the Bundeswehr and were divided into hundreds. They were disbanded as part of a reorganization of the Federal Border Police in the 1990s. Several border protection departments were combined in a border protection group.

There were border protection departments for training (GSA A), border protection departments for training / deployment (GSA A / E), the border protection department for construction (GSA B) in the 1950s and from 1975 the border protection department Bonn with the same abbreviation and the technical border protection department (GSA T) .
