Border Guard Group

A border guard group ( GSG ) was an association of the Federal Border Guard in Germany. It had a strength of 1,400–2,050 men and was led by a colonel in the BGS or, after the reform of the service law, by a chief police director in the BGS. The border guard group corresponded to a regiment in the Bundeswehr .

The border guard groups were each subordinate to three to four border guard departments. The groups were numbered until July 1, 1976. At this point there were nine groups. Thereafter, the number was reduced to six, and the groups designated with letters ( S OD, M itte, N ord, K üste and H for the Border Guards Fliegergruppe), only the boundary protective group 9 was further called with a digit. The border guard groups were disbanded in the 1990s, with the exception of Border Guard Group 9 .
