Greta Moens-Haenen

Greta Moens-Haenen (born July 29, 1953 ) is a Belgian musicologist . Her research focuses on topics and problems relating to the performance of early music. To this end, she published numerous works, including the standard work for instrumentalists and vocalists "The Vibrato in Baroque Music".

Life

Greta Moens-Haenen studied musicology and oriental studies at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven , her master's thesis dealt with the topic “ The tempo in baroque music ”. She received a grant from the Belgian State to study the theory and practice of early music at the Mozarteum University of Music and Performing Arts in Salzburg with Nikolaus Harnoncourt . In 1983 she received her doctorate summa cum laude from the University of Leuven with a thesis on vibrato in music of the 17th and 18th centuries.

From 1991 Greta Moens-Haenen taught at the Academy for Early Music in Bremen. Since the integration of the academy into the Bremen University of the Arts in 1994, she has been teaching there as a professor. She was married to the music journalist and author Stephan Moens.
