A barbecue fireplace (also: fireplace grill ) is a weather-resistant grill made of concrete, masonry or metal that uses the chimney effect for grilling .

construction

Barbecue chimneys essentially consist of four components (see figure on the right for numbering): a partially enclosed fire chamber (1), a chimney (2) (usually with a chimney or stove pipe ), an ash pan (4) and a substructure (3), which some Barbecue fireplaces are suitable for storing firewood and charcoal . Some mobile models have a table top for placing grilled food between the fire chamber and the substructure. For a secure stand, metal grills often have a solid base plate, some fireplaces made of concrete or masonry have a foundation .

species

Barbecue chimneys are made either from stone or from metal (e.g. stainless steel or cast iron). Combined models, in which the substructure and fire chamber are made of stone and a metal chimney is used, are a special case. While massive stone grills are usually walled up on the terrace or in the garden, there are mobile variants made of metal with their substructure is equipped with rollers.

functionality

The grill fireplace enables direct grilling . The embers are constantly supplied with air through ventilation openings between the substructure and the combustion chamber. Due to the chimney effect, smoke and heated air rise and are discharged via the chimney.
