Grip tester

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The GripTester is a test device for measuring the grip of road surfaces. It consists of a three-wheel trailer composed of two drive wheels and one measuring wheel without a profile. The measurement follows the principle of "defined braked wheel" and can be carried out either in towing or pushing mode. In towing mode, measurement speeds between 30 and 130 km / h can be covered, while in pushing mode, measurements are taken by hand at walking pace.

The measuring wheel is connected to the drive wheels by means of a chain. With a corresponding gear ratio (measuring wheel rotates slower than the drive wheels), the measuring wheel receives a constant slip value of 18%. At the same time, a thin film of water is sprayed on in front of the measuring wheel. A built-in load cell measures the force generated on the measuring wheel and thus allows conclusions to be drawn about the grip.
