The large-flowered houseleek ( Sempervivum grandiflorum ), also called Gaudin's houseleek , is a species of the genus of houseleek .
description
Sempervivum grandiflorum has medium to large, open, dark green rosettes that can usually reach a diameter of 2 to 10 cm. The leaves of the rosettes are finely hairy and have a dark brown tip. This hairiness on the leaf surfaces is a matter of glandular hairs, the secretion of which gives the rosettes a characteristic resin-like to unpleasant odor. The flowering shoot is up to 30 cm high. The flowers are yellow to greenish yellow, rarely white, the petals are narrow and long and taper to a point. The base of the petals is purple. The plants spread over long and slender runners .
The species has chromosome number 2n = 80.
Occurrence
The plants grow in southwestern Switzerland and northwestern Italy from Susa to the Simplon Pass , for example in the Gran Paradiso National Park on acidic soil and silicate soil.
