Grandparents day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grandparents' Day is a day of remembrance, which will be celebrated from country to country on different days each year. In the German-speaking area, it has been in Switzerland since 2016 .

The day is intended to promote solidarity and exchange between the generations; Grandchildren and parents can thank their grandparents for their commitment and love on this day. In some countries there is only one day of remembrance for grandmothers, such as B. in Germany , where efforts are being made to introduce a grandparents' day close to Annentag , July 26th. Elsewhere, for example in France , there are separate memorial days for grandmothers and grandfathers.

Switzerland

The Swiss Grandparents 'Day was launched by the Grandparents' magazine. This day is intended to make society aware of how much the grandparents do for society, the family and the grandchildren. According to calculations by the Federal Statistical Office, grandparents do 160 million hours of care work per year (grandmothers 113 million hours, grandfathers 47 million hours). The Federal Statistical Office evaluates this unpaid work at CHF 8.146 billion per year.

The Swiss celebrated their grandparents for the first time on March 6, 2016. Since then, Swiss Grandparents' Day has always been held on the second Sunday in March.

Large articles about Grandparents' Day appeared when it was launched in “Blick”, in “Schweiz am Sonntag”, the Swiss edition of the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit” and on Radio SRF and Radio Energy Zurich. The “Schweizer Illustrierte” awarded “Grandparents” publisher Dominik Achermann a rose for the idea, the “SonntagsZeitung” placed Grandparents Day at the top of their barometer and headlined “How charming!” On the opinion page of the “Tages-Anzeiger” there was a great pros and cons. On the second Swiss Grandparents Day on March 12, 2017, numerous media took up the topic of grandparents: “SonntagsZeitung”, Radio SRF, “St. Galler Tagblatt ”,“ Züritipp ”and many more reported on the day. The film about Grandparents 'Day, which was produced by the Grandparents' magazine and reached a very large audience via social media, met with particular interest.
