The great willow jewel beetle ( Ovalisia dives or Scintillatrix dives ) is a beetle from the family of jewel beetles from the subfamily of Chrysochroinae from the genus Ovalisia .
description
The beetles are 10 to 15 millimeters long. The top of the body is metallic green with many blue dots. On the side the color changes from golden green to red.
Occurrence
The beetle lives on the edge of the forest with willow bushes . It is common in the Southern Alps and rare in Southern Germany .
Way of life
Its larvae develop in the thicker branches and trunks of common willow trees . This causes lumpy swellings on the bark .
