description

The preserved grave of Huntlosen 1

The grave is also referred to as the “Großsteingrab Wittenhöge” or “Giant Bed”. It is located about three kilometers west-south-west of Huntlosen and two kilometers north-north-west of Döhlen in a wooded area on the north-western edge of the "Wittenhöhe (Wittenhöge)" corridor, in the middle of an extensive barrow field . At the time of Ernst Sprockhoff's admission in 1930, it was still densely overgrown. He could make out an approximately east-west oriented burial chamber about 14 meters long and two meters wide. There were twelve stones. Today the grave is in poor condition. The stones described by Sprockhoff are still there, but most of them are no longer in their original location. Cap stones are no longer available.

Huntlose's destroyed grave 2

The second grave is also known as the “Hosüner Büsche” or “Heidkamp”. It was right on the western outskirts of Huntlosen. The grave suffered major damage after the First World War , when two stones were removed for the construction of a war memorial in Sandkrug . Further destruction took place at the end of the 1930s when the Hegeler-Wald-Straße was built. In 1952, another large stone was used to expand the war memorial in Sandkrug. In 1955 there was only one large capstone left. This was probably removed in 1972 when extensive clean-up work and the construction of drainage channels in the forest became necessary after a major storm.

Huntlose's destroyed grave 3

The third grave was a little south of grave 1 on Wennekamps Eye. It was discovered during drainage work and examined in 1934/1935. In the following time it was completely destroyed.
