The megalithic graves near Uelzen were two or three megalithic tombs of the Neolithic funnel cup culture in the urban forest of Uelzen in the district of Uelzen ( Lower Saxony ). Two were destroyed in the 19th century, only remains of a possible further grave are preserved.

location

The preserved grave is located on the northern edge of the city forest, just before Westerweyhe . The two destroyed graves were about 600 m south. 1.8 km southeast of grave 1, close to the railway line, is the stone box in the Uelzen city forest and 2.9 km to the north is the large stone grave Westerweyhe .

description

The preserved grave

The facility is shown on the official topographic map as a large stone grave. Only a few large stones protruding slightly from the ground can be seen at the site, which do not allow any precise conclusions to be drawn about the original appearance of the grave.

The destroyed graves

Two other graves were documented by Georg Otto Carl von Estorff in the 1840s , but were already destroyed at that time and could therefore not be described in more detail. No information is available on the orientation, dimensions and type of grave. The card signatures only show that they had rectangular barren beds .
