The large stone grave Bavendorf is a burial complex of the Neolithic Funnel Beaker culture near the Bavendorf part of the Thomasburg community in the district of Lüneburg , Lower Saxony . It bears the Sprockhoff number 702.

location

The grave is located west of Bavendorf in a wooded area, just a few meters south of a power line. 250 m south of the facility is a hill with a single stone in the middle. However, it is questionable whether this is a second large stone grave , especially since there are numerous burial mounds in the same forest .

description

Ground plan of the grave according to Lienau

The plant originally had a stone border and a mound of 27 m long, 3 m wide and 1 m high. However, since an excavation carried out around 1911 under Michael Martin Lienau , the grave has been in a very poor condition. The mound was cut lengthways by a 22 m long channel. At the north end there are still some bordering stones, but they have all fallen over.
