Grandfather and the wolves

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grandfather and the Wolves is the title of the first children's book by the well-known Swedish writer Per Olov Enquist , which was awarded the 2003 Lynx for its 2003 work .

action

After six-year-old Mina was bitten by a crocodile that night and the next day the emblem on her father's polo shirt is missing, but her parents do not believe her, she turns to her grandfather. He decides to go on a hike up the Dreihöhlenberg with his four grandchildren to take away her fear.

The departure is delayed, however, because the group finds a small wolf whose father was killed by poachers.

The hike takes a dramatic turn when the grandfather falls and help has to be called. In addition, the group encounters the wolves in the cave where they sleep and finally discovers that the poachers are on their way again.

Remarks

Obviously the book is inspired by actual events. The author's dedication applies not only to four people with the same names as the grandchildren in the story, but also to a state hospital and the local rescue service and police "with thanks for a great effort under difficult circumstances."

Enquist tells from Mina's child's perspective and gives her view of the adults in a laconic and very humorous way. The book appeals to both child and adult readers. The illustrations are by Leonard Erlbruch .
