Daniel Grosgurin

Daniel Grosgurin (born July 13, 1949 in Geneva ) is a Swiss cellist.

Grosgurin studied at the conservatory in his native city as well as with Pierre Fournier and, in the USA, with János Starker . He won international competitions in Florence and Geneva, performed as a soloist with major orchestras and played with musicians such as Martha Argerich , Wolfgang Sawallisch , Michel Plasson , Jesús López Cobos , Ulf Hoelscher and Pierre Amoyal .

In 1978 he became a professor at the Mannheim University of Music . In 1990 he returned to Geneva, where he taught at the “Haute École de Musique” until 2014. He then got a call to the "Schola Cantorum de Paris". As a freelance artist and educator he also gives concerts and master classes in Europe, the USA and the Far East.

Until 2005, Grosgurin was artistic director of the string ensemble Les Solistes de Genève , which he founded in 1995 and with whom he has performed in Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey. His recording of solo works by Gaspar Cassadó was successful . 2004 CD was released entitled Violoncelle et opéra works in conjunction with the Opera and in 2011 a contribution to the overall output of the works of Franz Schubert for Naxos.
