Grote Knip ( Papiamentu : Kenepa Grandi ; also: Playa Abou : "Beach in a valley") is a public beach in a bay in the northwest of the Caribbean island of Curaçao .

The Grote Knip is located in the northwest of the island, roughly halfway between the cities of Westpunt and Lagun and is about an hour's drive from Willemstad . About a kilometer south is the Kleine Knip (Kenepa Chiki) beach .

description

Grote Knip is the most photographed beach on the island of Curaçao with the characteristics that are typical of a Caribbean beach, such as fine sand and turquoise water. The beach is frequented by tourists and locals alike. The bay is used for snorkeling and cliff jumping . For experienced swimmers, a reef in front of the bay can be reached in about ten minutes . There is a viewing platform above the beach.

Country house Knip

The Landhaus Knip is located near the bay . The house, built at the beginning of the 18th century, now houses the Museo Tula , which commemorates the slave rebellion of 1795, which began on the plantation belonging to Landhaus Knip under the leadership of Tula and developed into the largest slave rebellion in Curacao.
