Groupe Caisse d'Epargne ( German Sparkasse Group ) was a French company with headquarters in Paris . The company was active in the banking industry and had around 4,700 bank branches in France. The Groupe Caisse d'Epargne was founded in 1818. The merger with the French Groupe Banque Populaire to form BPCE on July 31, 2009 created the second largest banking group in France.

history
In 2006 the subsidiary IXIS Corporate and Investment Bank merged with the French investment bank Natexis , resulting in the investment bank Natixis . In Natixis , the Groupe Caisse d'Epargne held 34.5 percent of the shares and a further 34.5 percent were held by the French bank Groupe Banque Populaire .
On July 31, 2009, the merger with Groupe Banque Populaire to form BPCE created the second largest banking group in France. On December 31, 2009, the newly created institute had around 37 million customers (including 7 million members), had around 8,200 branches and employed around 127,000 people.
