Aircalin is a French airline based in Nouméa in New Caledonia and based at La Tontouta Airport .
history
Aircalin was founded in September 1983 and began operations on December 2, 1983 in cooperation with Qantas and a Boeing 747 between Nouméa and Melbourne . This service later became known as "le Caledonian Express". Later the destinations Brisbane , Port Vila , Wallis and Futuna as well as Nadi were added by means of a Boeing 737-200 leased from Air Nauru . In 1985 a Sud Aviation Caravelle 10B3 was purchased. In 1987 a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter was added, which was stationed for service in Wallis and Futuna in the Wallis Islands . In 1988 the Caravelle 10B3 was replaced by a Boeing 737. Between 1995 and 1996 a McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 was used for service between Nouméa, Brisbane and Papeete . In 1996 the new Aircalin logo was published. On July 11, 1996, a partnership agreement was signed with Qantas. A Boeing 767 has been in charter operation since 1997 . In March 2000, an Airbus A310 began flight service to Osaka . Two Airbus A330-200s were ordered in 2001 and put into service in late 2002 and early 2003, respectively. An Airbus A320-200 was acquired in February 2004 and has been in service between Nouméa and Sydney ever since .
On November 29, 2016, Airbus announced that Aircalin had entered into a letter of intent to purchase two A320neo and two A330-900neo each . Airbus announced the conversion of the letter of intent into an order on October 11, 2017.
The airline is 72% owned by Groupe Caisse d'Epargne , 27% by Agence pour la Desserte aérienne de Nouvelle Caledonie and 1% of the workforce. In March 2007 it employed 390 people.
In November 2019, an Airbus A330-200 that had already been decommissioned was temporarily reactivated. This was intended as a replacement for a new Airbus A330-900, in which there was an odor problem. As a result, it no longer carried passengers until it was repaired. At the beginning of 2020 the Airbus A330-200 was phased out again.
Destinations
Aircalin flies from Nouméa to destinations in Oceania , East and Australasia .
There are also codeshare agreements with Air France , Air New Zealand , Air Tahiti Nui and Qantas Airways .
