Air Liberté , later also Airlib , was a French airline based in Rungis and based at Paris-Orly Airport .

history

Air Liberté was founded in 1987 and started operations in April 1988 with a leased McDonnell Douglas MD-83 .

In 1996 the airline ran into financial difficulties and posted a loss of 1 billion francs (€ 152 million). In 1997 British Airways took over 70% of the shares. Air Liberté was added to TAT , and today's Nouvelair emerged from the Tunisian subsidiary .

In March 2001, AOM French Airlines, affected by the insolvency of SAirGroup, renamed itself Air Liberté and in September of the same year both companies merged to become Airlib . In 2003, however, Airlib finally filed for bankruptcy and subsequently ceased flight operations.

Destinations

It mainly served holiday destinations in Europe and the Mediterranean region. However, there were also intercontinental connections. A route to Montreal was established in 1993, and Réunion and the Caribbean were also on the flight schedule.
