Greetings to Vienna (Polka)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Greetings to Vienna Polka is a French Polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 225). The work was probably first performed in Pavlovsk , Russia, in the summer of 1859 .

Remarks

The polka was created in the summer of 1859 during Johann Strauss' trip to Russia. It may have premiered under a different title at a benefit concert in Pavlovsk on July 23. However, this assumption can only be guessed at. There is no exact evidence for this. What is certain, however, is that the polka was performed under its current name on November 20, 1859 in the Vienna Volksgarten .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 27 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
