The Grundarfjörður is a fjord in the west of Iceland . The town of the same name lies on its shore and it is a side fjord of Breiðafjörður .

It is bounded by peninsulas on both sides. In the west lies the conspicuously conical volcanic mountain Kirkjufell , further to the west the mountainous peninsula with the mountain Stöðin protrudes into the Breiðafjörður and separates the Grundarfjörður fjord from the larger fjord.

To the east of the Grundarfjörður fjord is another mountainous peninsula called Framsveit .

An old central volcano lies on top of it. Therefore, a lot of rhyolite can be found on the peninsula .

There are also some old farms on the peninsula. The Viking Vestar already settled in Framsveit during the time when Iceland was settled. The Icelandic saga Eyrbyggja is about him and his descendants . In Setberg long time was the most important and richest rectory of the area.
