Grupo Independiente Liberal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grupo Independiente Liberal (abbreviated: GIL, in German: Independent Liberal Group) is a regional Spanish party that was founded by the politician Jesús Gil , whose last name purposely formed the acronym of the strongly person-centered party.

The party was launched in Marbella in 1991 and clearly won local elections in the same year. Jesús Gil became the new mayor and made Marbella a new destination for the international jet set on the Costa del Sol .

In the wake of the corruption charges against Jesús Gil and his successors Julián Muñoz (Mayor 2002-2003) and Marisol Yagüe (Mayor 2003-2006) the party lost influence. In the local elections on May 27, 2007, she lost all representatives on the Marbella City Council.
